Final Site Plan Approval

On September 14, the Lexington Planning Commission approved Kendal’s site plan for the Independent Living expansion on Sunrise Ridge. Special thanks are in order to civil engineers Mike Rakes and Trae Livick of Spectrum Design for their good work in responding to all the questions posed by City planners, both before and during last night’s hearing.  We are also grateful for the work of Arne Glaeser and his staff from the City of Lexington for their assistance.

Fire Hydrant sanding and painting

Weather permitting, the fire hydrants will be greased and oiled on Friday 8/11/17.

We also plan on sand blasting the hydrants on Monday 8/14/17.  No cars may be parked within 30 feet of the fire hydrants.

Hydrants will be painted on Tuesday 8/15/17 and cars will need to be parked at least 50 feet from them. The sand blasting and painting will follow this schedule, weather permitting. Painting will not be done if the wind is blowing.

Fire Hydrant Flow Testing

Simplex will be on the Kendal at Lexington campus on Monday morning, July 31, at 8:00 a.m.  They will be “flow testing” the 13 fire hydrants around the campus.  This will involve using a lot of water . . . so you may experience some brown water in your lines.  It will be a little unpleasant, but temporary.

This is the first step of a two-step process.  After the flow for each hydrant is determined, Simplex will come back and sandblast and paint the hydrants.  They use different colors to indicate the flow levels, so the fire department will know what they are able to do with each hydrant.

This is unrelated to any other work on campus and very necessary for our emergency planning.

Your understanding is appreciated.

"Borings" to take place July 25-26-27

Beginning on Tuesday, July 25, contractors will be conducting borings to determine the rock formations, if any, in the areas to be used as rainwater retention areas for the Sunrise Ridge cottages.

This work will involve some large equipment that will be at the bottom of the Kendal property, and it is a somewhat noisy process.  We anticipate that it will take approximately 2-3 days, and the work may be done between the hours of 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, or 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.

These retention areas are an important part of the project as they will prevent excess water from leaving the Kendal property during heavy rains.

Parking Lot Work Begins Today - July 10, 2017

Work on the parking area in front of the Anderson Building begins today.  There should be no impediment to the traffic flow.  Barriers are set up to deter parking along the outer edge of the circle and to establish a separation between drivers and workmen.  Residents and visitors may continue parking in the parking spots in the center of the parking lot.  Unless otherwise assigned, staff are advised to park in the staff parking lot in front of the Webster Entrance.

Parking lot expansion

Beginning around July 10, 2017, Kendal at Lexington will be expanding the main parking area in the circle in front of the Anderson Center.  This long-planned project is unrelated to the anticipated renovation and expansion efforts, will occur entirely on property located in Rockbridge County, and is expected to be completed in approximately 30 days.

If you have questions, please call (540) 458-3782.

Thank you,
