Preparations for the actual start of construction continue

Having learned that some blasting may be necessary, neighbors residing in closer proximity to the work area(s) will be contacted to make arrangements for a brief inspection of the exterior and interior of the homes to document existing damage.  Some photos will be taken. We do not anticipate that you will incur damage to your property.  However, in the unlikely event that construction activities damage your property, there will be factual data to support your claim.

Neighbors who are contacted are being asked to provide tentative dates for scheduling the visits during the week of February 26th.   Please let us know what might work for you by contacting Becky Edmondson at bjedmondson@kalex.kendal.org or 540-458-3782.

Kendal at Lexington Event Invitation Headers

11:00 am

160 Kendal Drive
Lexington, VA 24450

No RSVP is required. A presentation in Kendal Hall will be followed by a groundbreaking ceremony in the Borden Health Center Courtyard.

***

After years of careful planning, the time has finally come to begin construction on Kendal at Lexington's new state of the art Borden Health and Webster Assisted Living Centers, Anderson Dining Room and thirty new independent living cottages.

About the Kendal at Lexington Phase III Project

Over the next two years, the Kendal campus will evolve to include a newly renovated Borden Health Center and Webster Assisted Living Center, an expanded Anderson Dining room, and thirty more independent living cottages.

Borden and Webster will continue to serve the greater Rockbridge community as well as Kendal’s contract residents during the renovation. But, over the next two to three years, renovations to our health care centers will make life brighter and more homelike for their residents, more friendly to those who suffer from cognitive decline, and will provide our wonderful staff a quality workplace.

Office and Equipment Relocations

Preparations for the Phase 3 project have begun!

The Webster Center expansion and renovation will be one of the first construction activities undertaken. When the Webster Center construction begins, residents will not be able to enter the North Apartment Building through the current entrance.  To accommodate our residents, a new entryway will be constructed.  This new entryway will be located in the area currently occupied by the Clinic, Cathy Lewis and Karen Jackson.

Following an extensive review of very limited options, Karen Jackson has moved her office to the Housekeeping office in the South Apartment Building.  In a week or so, Cathy Lewis and the Clinic will move to the Massage Room in the Fitness Center.  To accommodate some of our residents, the scale and blood pressure equipment will be placed in the room next to the Restaurant.

We regret the inconvenience caused by these temporary re-locations.  Please come and see me if you have questions, concerns, or suggestions.  And, thank you for your patience.

We're On Our Way!!!

We’re On Our Way!!!

We are excited to be getting started on the long-awaited renovations and expansion at Kendal at Lexington!  Construction trailers will begin to arrive in the next few days, and there will be multiple visits from Miss Utility to mark all of the important wires, pipes, etc., that we don’t want to upset.

Work will begin at the Borden and Webster Centers first, with the new construction work coming first – followed by renovations to the existing buildings.

As a safety precaution, fences will be added around the construction areas . . . but places to peek in and see what’s going on are in the plans, too.

Stay tuned for more information as things start to really get going.

Final Site Plan Approval

On September 14, the Lexington Planning Commission approved Kendal’s site plan for the Independent Living expansion on Sunrise Ridge. Special thanks are in order to civil engineers Mike Rakes and Trae Livick of Spectrum Design for their good work in responding to all the questions posed by City planners, both before and during last night’s hearing.  We are also grateful for the work of Arne Glaeser and his staff from the City of Lexington for their assistance.

Fire Hydrant sanding and painting

Weather permitting, the fire hydrants will be greased and oiled on Friday 8/11/17.

We also plan on sand blasting the hydrants on Monday 8/14/17.  No cars may be parked within 30 feet of the fire hydrants.

Hydrants will be painted on Tuesday 8/15/17 and cars will need to be parked at least 50 feet from them. The sand blasting and painting will follow this schedule, weather permitting. Painting will not be done if the wind is blowing.
